HOW WE KEEP YOUR LOVED ONE'S ASHES SAFE

Families often want to know exactly what happens to their loved one’s ashes when they choose ashes jewellery.

It’s an important question — and one we take seriously.

At Ashes With Art, every set of ashes is:

● Carefully received and logged
Clearly labelled and documented
Stored securely in our ash-handling studio
● Worked on by one dedicated specialist at a time, to ensure complete accuracy and safety

WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR LOVED ONE'S ASHES - STEP BY STEP

Here’s exactly how we safely receive, label, store and work with your loved one’s ashes throughout the jewellery-making process.

1. Individually Labelled, Secure Storage

We only ever need a very small amount of ashes to create your jewellery — usually around a teaspoon.

If you used one of our Ashes With Art order packs, you can place this small amount directly into one of our labelled, sealable bags and include your order details.

If you provide your own, small container, we keep this safely in our studio and ensure it is securely labelled with the correct information before any work begins.

In every case, ashes are kept in clearly identified, individually labelled containers used exclusively for your order.

2. Secure Arrival, Logging, & Confirmation

As soon as your pack arrives with us, it is signed in, checked, and logged onto your order using a unique reference number.

Each pack is given a clear, traceable identifier that stays with it from start to finish, ensuring complete accuracy throughout the ashes jewellery process.

We also document your pack throughout the process, so we have a clear audit trail.

Once everything is safely logged, you’ll receive an email confirmation letting you know that your loved one’s ashes have arrived safely and are now in our care.

3. Dedicated Ash-Handling Studio

Once logged, your loved one’s ashes are stored securely within our studio and are only handled in a dedicated ash-handling area of our workshop.

This area is kept separate from general jewellery production while ashes are being worked with, helping us maintain a controlled and respectful environment. This area is kept clean and sterile, and only specialist, trained team members are authorised to handle ashes.

Each time your loved one’s ashes are accessed, this is recorded and logged — noting who handled them, when, and for what purpose.

This ensures complete transparency and traceability at every stage.

4. One Specialist Handling One Order at a Time

Whether your jewellery requires ashes for a glass gemstone or a cremation chamber, your loved one’s ashes are always handled by one specialist team member at a time.

This trained specialist follows our strict safe ash-handling procedures and works only in our dedicated ash-handling area.

They never work on multiple ash orders simultaneously, ensuring complete focus, accuracy and respect.

SAFE RETURN OF ANY UNUSED ASHES

Once your jewellery is complete, any ashes not used are returned to you alongside your finished jewellery. We never discard or keep any ashes.
This ensures that all unused ashes are treated with respect and safely returned home.

BRINGING YOUR LOVED ONE'S ASHES TO US IN PERSON

If you prefer not to post the ashes, you are very welcome to bring them to us in person.
Many families choose this option for peace of mind, and our teams in Worthing and Birmingham are always happy to help.

When visiting us, one of our trained specialists will:

● Receive and take the amount of ashes needed
● Ensure everything is labelled and logged correctly
● Explain how your loved one’s ashes will be handled throughout the process
● Answer any questions you may have

You are never rushed — we understand this is an emotional moment, and we make the experience calm, private and respectful.

If you'd like to bring the ashes in person, just contact us to arrange a visit.

BOOK IN-STORE APPOINTMENT

VIEWING APPOINTMENTS AT OUR WORTHING STORE

If you would like to be present for part of the making process, we offer viewing appointments at our Worthing studio.

During this appointment, you can watch our specialist place the ashes into the chamber of your jewellery piece. If you would prefer not to see the ashes, you can wait in a seperate area whilst we do this and we will return any unused ashes directly afterwards.

During your viewing appointment:

● A trained specialist will prepare your piece
● You will be invited to watch as the ashes are placed into the chamber
● We will explain how the chamber is sealed and what steps happen next
● We will answer any questions you may have throughout

Viewing appointments are private, calm and completely optional, but incredibly meaningful for the families who request them.

To arrange a viewing appointment, please contact us. We will need you to place your order in advance to give us time to prepare your piece.

WHY WE ONLY USE HIGH-QIALITY, RESIN-FREE MATERIALS FOR ASHES JEWELLERY

For all ashes jewellery, we work only with solid precious metals and our own resin-free glass gemstones.
We never use resin to hold ashes, as resin can:

● Yellow over time
● Crack or cloud
● React to heat, sunlight, water, or chemicals
● Break down in daily wear
● Trap moisture, causing discolouration

For something as meaningful as your loved one’s ashes, resin is simply not a stable or long-lasting material.

Why this matters

Choosing resin-free memorial jewellery means your piece will last, remain clear and beautiful, and keep your loved one’s ashes safe for generations.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

READY TO BEGIN?

Every member of our team understands the responsibility of working with something so precious. We treat every order as if it were our own loved one.

FAQ's - How We Handle Your Loved One's Ashes

How do you make sure ashes don’t get mixed up?

Every order is given a unique order number and placed in a clearly labelled bag used only for your piece. Ashes are logged each time they are handled, and our specialists work on one order at a time.
This system ensures complete accuracy and traceability throughout the entire ashes jewellery process.

Are the ashes handled respectfully throughout the process?

Always. We treat every loved one’s ashes with care, respect and dignity, following strict procedures to ensure they are handled gently and safely.
Our team understands how meaningful each piece is, and we honour that at every step of the process.

Can I visit and bring the ashes in person?

Yes — you are welcome to bring the ashes to us in person by appointment. Many families prefer this option for peace of mind. We will check, label and log the ashes with you and answer any questions during your visit.

Are the ashes secure inside the jewellery? Can they come out?

Yes — the ashes are completely secure. In chamber jewellery, ashes are placed inside a permanently sealed precious metal chamber that cannot open.
In glass gemstone jewellery, ashes are permanently encapsulated within solid glass — not resin — meaning they cannot come out or be affected by sunlight, moisture or wear.

How do you store my loved one’s ashes safely?

Your loved one’s ashes are stored in a secure, dedicated area of our studio and kept in clearly labelled containers that are used only for your order.
Access is restricted to trained specialists, and every time your ashes are moved or handled, this is logged and recorded to maintain full transparency and traceability.

Who handles my loved one’s ashes?

Ashes are only handled by our specially trained team. Each specialist follows our strict safety procedures and works in our dedicated ash-handling area.
Only one specialist works on your order at a time, ensuring complete focus, respect and accuracy.

Is it safe to send ashes by post?

Yes — it is safe to send ashes by post. We recommend using a tracked, signed-for service, such as Royal Mail Special Delivery, for extra piece of mind.
We include clear instructions in your Ashes With Art order pack to help you post them securely. Many families choose this option, and it is one of the safest and most reliable ways for ashes to reach us.
You can also bring the ashes to us in-person, if you prefer.

What happens if any ashes are left over after making my item?

All ashes that remain after making your piece are securely returned to you with your completed item.
