OUR APPROACH TO RESPONSIBLE MATERIALS

Our Material Commitments

We take a long-term approach to sourcing and craftsmanship. Our choices prioritise material integrity, transparency and jewellery designed to endure. True sustainability is longevity — pieces created to last reduce the need for replacement.

  • Resin-free construction across our memorial jewellery.
  • Kiln-fired glass permanence chosen for long-term material stability.
  • Responsibly sourced precious metals through reputable supply chains.
  • Lab-grown diamond options available as a lower-impact alternative.
  • Designed for generational durability — permanence is part of our environmental responsibility.

For a detailed material comparison, see our Glass vs Resin memorial jewellery guide, or explore our craft process to understand how these commitments are applied in every piece.

At Ashes With Art, ethical sourcing isn’t a label we add at the end – it’s built into how we work from day one.
Every piece is handmade in our own UK workshops using carefully chosen metals, diamonds, gemstones and kiln-fired glass from trusted suppliers who follow strict ethical and environmental standards.

We believe a memorial should honour not only the life of the person remembered, but also the world they leave behind. That’s why we prioritise responsibly sourced materials, lab-grown stones and long-lasting glass alternatives to plastic resin – creating jewellery that is both meaningful and mindful.

Your jewellery is more than beautiful. It’s made with respect – for you, your loved one’s memory, and the world we all share.

Sustainability in Memorial Jewellery

Sustainability in memorial jewellery begins with responsible material selection and long-term durability. At Ashes With Art, we prioritise responsibly sourced precious metals, certified lab-grown diamonds and kiln-fired glass instead of plastic resin. By focusing on permanent construction methods, in-house UK production and materials designed to last, we reduce waste and avoid short-term substitutes, creating jewellery intended to be worn, treasured and passed down for generations.

PRECIOUS METALS YOU CAN TRUST

PRECIOUS METALS YOU CAN TRUST

Our sterling silver, gold and platinum are supplied by established UK partners who follow robust ethical and environmental practices. They work within strict UK and international standards around human rights, responsible sourcing and traceability.

By working with established UK suppliers and prioritising quality metals designed to last, we support a more responsible approach to fine jewellery. This reduces unnecessary replacement and ensures each piece can be worn and treasured for generations.

We work with:
Sterling silver
9ct gold (yellow, white and rose)
18ct gold (yellow, white and rose)
Platinum

Every eligible piece is independently hallmarked in the UK, confirming the metal purity and giving you complete confidence in what you’re wearing.

ETHICAL DIAMONDS – NATURAL & LAB-GROWN

ETHICAL DIAMONDS – NATURAL & LAB-GROWN

We offer both natural and lab-grown diamonds, selected for their beauty, quality and responsible sourcing.

Natural diamonds
 • Sourced only through conflict-free, legal and transparent channels
 • Supplied by reputable UK partners who follow strict due-diligence processes
 • Fully compliant with international ethical and human-rights standards

Lab-grown diamonds
 • Created in controlled environments using advanced technology
• A modern, considered alternative to mined stones
 • Fully traceable through a clear supply chain

Both options give you exceptional sparkle with the reassurance of ethical sourcing.

For customers who prioritise environmental impact, lab-grown diamonds can offer a reduced level of land disruption and resource intensity compared to traditional mining. By offering both natural and lab-grown options, we allow you to choose the stone that best reflects your values while maintaining the same standards of quality and craftsmanship.

HANDMADE KILN-FIRED GLASS GEMSTONES

HANDMADE KILN-FIRED GLASS GEMSTONES

Many of our ashes gemstones are made from kiln-fired glass, handcrafted in our own workshop. This process uses professional-grade glass fired at high temperatures to create smooth, durable stones without any plastics or poured resin.

Kiln-firing gives each stone:

• Beautiful, consistent colour
• Long-term durability
• Excellent resistance to water and UV light
• A unique, handcrafted finish suitable for fine jewellery settings

RESPONSIBLY SELECTED GEMSTONES

RESPONSIBLY SELECTED GEMSTONES

Alongside our kiln-fired glass and diamonds, we also use a curated selection of gemstones. These include lab-grown stones and carefully sourced natural gemstones when requested.

We work only with suppliers who operate within recognised legal and ethical frameworks, with clear standards around working conditions, compliance and traceability. Stones are chosen not only for their appearance, but for the integrity of their supply chain.

If you’d like to explore gemstone options further, our team can guide you through lab-grown, natural and kiln-fired glass options during a design consultation.

OUR RESIN-FREE PROMISE

We never use resin, epoxy, acrylic or any poured plastic substitute in our jewellery. Instead, our memorial pieces are created using traditional fine-jewellery techniques — including kiln-fired glass where glass is part of the design, and the setting of natural or lab-grown gemstones and diamonds.

Many designs secure ashes within solid precious metal compartments that are laser-welded shut. This means no yellowing, no softening, no cracking — just durable, waterproof, UV-safe jewellery designed to last a lifetime.

We never rely on poured resin to seal ashes or create compartments. Where glass is used, it is kiln-fired and permanently fused. In many designs, ashes are secured within solid precious metal compartments that are laser-welded shut, and gemstones are set using the same craftsmanship expected in high-end jewellery — creating heirloom-quality pieces designed to last.

WORKING ONLY WITH RESPONSIBLE SUPPLIERS

WORKING ONLY WITH RESPONSIBLE SUPPLIERS

We choose our suppliers carefully. We work with established UK metal refiners, casting specialists and stone suppliers who follow clear policies around:

 • Human rights and modern-slavery compliance
• Environmental responsibility and waste reduction
• Traceable, legally compliant supply chains
• Conflict-free precious metals and diamonds
• Clear codes of conduct and grievance processes

We regularly review our partners to ensure they continue to meet the standards we expect.

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

As a small UK jewellery workshop, we’re always looking for ways to reduce our impact.

We:
• Recycle and refine precious-metal offcuts rather than wasting them
• Design jewellery to be long-lasting, not disposable
• Use durable materials instead of short-term fixes
• Keep production in-house rather than outsourcing overseas
• Review our processes regularly to find improvements

It’s an ongoing journey, but it’s one we take seriously.

TRANSPARENCY YOU CAN ALWAYS ASK ABOUT

Choosing memorial jewellery is a deeply personal decision. For many families, it is important that the piece reflects the values of the person being honoured. Ethical sourcing is not a marketing angle for us – it’s part of how we work, every day.

By prioritising responsible materials, durable construction and traditional craftsmanship, we create jewellery designed to last for generations. If you’d ever like more detail about a material, a process, or how your jewellery is made, you can contact our team or visit us in person at our UK studios to see how we work.
